Visiting Rainbow Community
Visiting Rainbow is an opportunity to come and experience how our community works.
However, owing to limited space, it's important that you please contact us for availability.
Please see our Contacts page.
Your length of stay may vary from a few days, to a few weeks - depending partly on you, of course, but also on the season, availability of spaces, and what's happening in the community at the time.
There are four options for staying at Rainbow.
Backpackers
We open our backpackers/guesthouse during the summer months.
See our Backpacker page for full details.
Camping
We have limited space for camping, so it’s important to make contact first.
See our Camping at Rainbow page for details about camping at Rainbow.
Volunteers/Woofing
Enquire either through Helpex, Woofnz, or directly by email through this website.
Coming as a volunteer, we ask that you bring sturdy footwear/gumboots, and appropriate clothes that don’t mind getting dirty!
It is useful to us if you tell us a little about yourself - your skills, work experience, especially work on the land, and if you have had community involvement before.
Our work here varies considerably, from gardening, farmwork, scrub clearing, pruning, painting, track maintenance, firewood gathering, cleaning - to many other possibilities. We hope you'll enjoy learning some new skills, and find satisfaction in helping to get the community work done.
Woofers work under the direction of various Rainbow members, four hours per day, Monday through Friday. Sometimes, we learn new skills from our volunteers too!
Golden Bay is a lovely area to explore during your weekends off. It helps to have your own car.
Staying in a private home.
Sometimes community members have spaces available in their own homes.
You may be able to negotiate to stay as a private homestay guest, or as someone’s personal Woofer.
