Rainbow Valley Community is an intentional community based on concepts of shared land, community events, cooperative participation, and non-violence. Our structures and processes, understandings and agreements, have evolved over more than 40 years. We are not based on any specific religious, spiritual or political ideals, but on a spirit of genuine willingness to work together. Today, the community is a mix of long-term members and other residents - together with woofers and short-term visitors - and includes families with children, young people, and senior citizens. We have created a beautiful environment with a village atmosphere, where people own their own dwellings and are responsible for their own incomes, while sharing responsibility for community facilities. Central to the community is the Community House, where we gather to hold celebrations, meetings, and some shared meals. During the summer months, the Community House is run as a guest house/backpackers. Rainbow Valley Company owns the land and community facilities, and deals with all matters concerning the legal aspects of our community. Each adult residing at Rainbow Valley is required to sign a Community Agreement, and pays a weekly community fee. As a group, currently amounting to 25 residents, we have a range of different skills, interests and backgrounds. We have a shared love and respect for the natural environment we live in. Many of us have created attractive gardens and landscaped areas, as well as growing vegetables and fruit.
